Signs of abuse & neglect at Hyde Park Healthcare Center
If your loved one is a resident at Hyde Park Healthcare Center and you suspect they may be suffering from neglect or abuse, you should look for the following warning signs.
- Unexplained injuries like bruises, cuts, fractures, or bedsores could indicate either abuse or neglect.
- Sudden weight loss or indicators of malnutrition or dehydration can suggest possible neglect.
- Residents should be kept clean and in sanitary surroundings. Unwashed clothes, soiled bedding, or untreated infections can signify neglect.
- Withdrawal, fearfulness, depression, or agitation can be signs of abuse.
- Signs of overmedication or undermedication include drowsiness, confusion, or worsening health conditions, indicating neglect or abuse.
- Facilities should be secure to prevent wandering and elopement, and if residents are found unsupervised or missing from the facility, it suggests neglect.
Common types of nursing home negligence
Understaffing and neglect are common in nursing homes and similar facilities. Patients may suffer because of issues including:
- Inadequate staffing, which can result in residents not receiving proper nutrition and hydration, potentially leading to severe health complications.
- A lack of proper care, which may lead to residents developing pressure ulcers (bedsores) and infections due to prolonged immobility and poor hygiene.
- Overworked staff, who may administer incorrect dosages of medication or fail to provide them on time, endangering a resident’s health.
- A lack of supervision, which increases the risk of falls, potentially causing fractures, head injuries, and long-term disabilities.
- Neglect, which can also lead to feelings of isolation, anxiety, and depression among residents. All of these significantly impact their well-being.
If your loved one has suffered due to neglect or understaffing at Hyde Park Healthcare Center, you may need to take legal action to hold the facility accountable.

Who is liable for nursing home abuse & neglect at Hyde Park Healthcare Center?
Liability for nursing home abuse and neglect can be assigned to multiple parties, depending on the circumstances. Those who may be held responsible include:
- If Hyde Park Healthcare is part of a larger corporation, its parent company may be held liable for systemic issues like understaffing, inadequate training, or cost-cutting measures that compromise resident care.
- Nursing home administrators are responsible for ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. Failing to address complaints or enforce proper care standards can make them liable.
- Medical professionals may be liable for misdiagnosing conditions, administering incorrect medications, or failing to respond to emergencies.
- If staff members physically, emotionally, or financially abuse residents, they can be held personally accountable.
- If the facility outsources medical care, therapy, or maintenance services, those companies could be responsible for negligence or unsafe conditions.
- If a resident is harmed due to a defective medical device or dangerous medication provided by the facility, the manufacturer could share liability.
- While not directly liable, agencies overseeing nursing homes may be investigated if they fail to enforce regulations or respond to complaints about abuse or neglect.
If your loved one suffered abuse or neglect, legal action may be necessary to hold the facility and responsible parties accountable. Our nursing home abuse attorneys can help investigate, gather evidence, and fight for justice.

Both federal and state laws require skilled nursing facilities to provide sufficient and competent nursing staffing to meet the needs of their census populations. The federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (“CMS”) monitors and regulates skilled nursing facilities and their various staffing levels.
In its regulatory role, CMS created the Five-Star Rating System[1] that calculates various quality measures based on the data that each facility provides to CMS as part of their respective participation in the Medicare program. According to CMS, “[n]ursing homes with 5 stars are considered to have much above average quality and nursing homes with 1 star are considered to have quality much below average.”[2] Notably, among the most significant factors reviewed by CMS is the “staffing” provided to each facility’s census population.
Based on the data provided to CMS, CMS has determined that Hyde Park Healthcare Center, located at 6520 West Boulevard in Los Angeles, California, has no ratings due to a history of serious quality issues. This nursing home is subject to more frequent inspections, escalating penalties, and potential termination from Medicare and Medicaid as part of the Special Focus Facility (SFF) program.[3] On July 21, 2023, this facility was cited for numerous deficiencies, which are available to review in inquiring whether those same deficiencies may apply to you or your loved one (e.g., failing to “ensure that a nursing home area is free from accident hazards and provides adequate supervision to prevent accidents,” failure to “develop and implement a complete care plan that meets all the resident's needs…”, and “protect each resident from all types of abuse such as physical, mental, sexual abuse, physical punishment, and neglect by anybody.”).[4]
